The Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) program is now open for a period of 6 weeks. Round 2 applicants will submit applications for eligible grant funding for FY23, FY24, and FY25 (depending on the grant agreement tier that is applicable).
Applications close at 4:00 pm (AEST) on Wednesday 17 August 2022. It take a minimum of two (2) weeks to complete a claim.
Small to medium enterprise (SME) exporters can apply for 3 different grants over 8 years. These may not be consecutive years. Grants are for eligible promotional activities.
Grants are available in 3 stages, or ‘tiers’. Each tier gives a different level of support for SMEs as they grow their export markets.
Overview
The EMDG program is a Federal Government initiative that aims to encourages Australian businesses to seek export opportunities for their goods, services and intellectual property.
The EMDG program assists small to medium-sized Australian businesses, with turnover of less than $20 million, by reimbursing up to 50% of eligible costs associated with the development of export opportunities. There is a maximum annual grant of $150,000 available for up to 8 grant years and has three (3) tiers (or levels) of support.
The EMDG program provides an upfront funding model providing certainty around for the level of support businesses will receive for eligible overseas marketing spend.

Milestone reports
Applicants who received a grant agreement for FY22 must provide Austrade with a milestone report to receive the grant funding. Milestone reports and lodgement dates are set out in applicants specific grant agreement.
